Nigeria’s Communications Minister Outlines Tech-Centric Agenda at UNGA 2023

Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani outlines Nigeria’s tech-focused priorities at UNGA 2023, emphasizing inclusivity, AI, and economic growth.

Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for Nigeria, took to his LinkedIn newsletter to highlight the key priorities during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2023. The minister emphasized the pivotal role of technology in Nigeria’s path to sustainable development.

Firstly, Tijani stressed the need to expand the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) to bridge the digital divide, aiming to connect underserved communities and ensure inclusivity in the digital revolution.

Secondly, he outlined plans to position Nigeria as a global hub for AI model training, tapping into the nation’s talent pool for job creation and emphasizing diversity in AI datasets.

Lastly, Tijani echoed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for economic diversification through technology. The ministry seeks partnerships to attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) to Nigerian startups, driving sustainable growth and entrepreneurship.
