MTN South Africa Launches Skills Academy to Drive Digital Proficiency and Economic Growth

MTN Skills Academy empowers youth for a digital future, fostering innovation and contributing to economic development.

MTN South Africa has launched the MTN Skills Academy, a pivotal move in their Ambition 2025 strategy, designed to close the digital skills gap and empower South African youth. The initiative aims to achieve a 60% proficiency in sustainable digital skills by 2025, underlining MTN’s commitment to driving digital transformation in the country.

The launch event in Johannesburg featured key figures, including MTN SA CEO Charles Molapisi and other corporate leaders, emphasizing the significance of this step in shaping a connected future for all. The MTN Skills Academy is a strategic investment, aligning with MTN’s broader mission to foster a modern connected life.

Partnering with institutions like PACE and Coursera, MTN seeks to create a talent pool equipped to drive innovation and spur growth in the digital economy. Arthur Mukhuvha, General Manager of the MTN SA Foundation, heralds the academy as a game-changer for digital education.

Following the success of the 2023 Digital Skills for Digital Jobs program, which uplifted 900 unemployed youth across all provinces, the MTN Skills Academy emphasizes practical, in-demand skills with immediate applications in the workforce. The focus is not only on enhancing employability but also on contributing meaningfully to the nation’s economic development.

MTN’s commitment extends beyond borders, aligning with continental economic development goals. By fostering a skilled workforce, MTN aims to attract investment, drive innovation, and position Africa as a competitive player in the global digital landscape. Alongside the academy, MTN continues to expand network infrastructure, increase high-speed data services, and support local initiatives driving digital transformation in South Africa.
