Rohde & Schwarz, a global pioneer in 5G Broadcast-Multicast has introduced a new, extended and enhanced version of its Broadcast Service & Control Center (BSCC). The R&S®BSCC2.0 builds on the success of its predecessor, which is providing the beating heart of proof of concept 5G Broadcast-Multicast trials in regional markets as diverse as Germany, Brazil and China.
Using the BSCC2.0, Broadcasters and Network Operators can deliver many more mobile services, such as over-the-air updates and upgrades, venue casting, automotive services, e-Learning, multimedia streaming on demand, public warning announcements, e-Sports, e-Agriculture, live casting & live commerce.
A cornerstone of 5G Broadcast is its ability to provide mobile users with access to super high-quality video content. To this end, the BSCC2.0 supports a wide range of streaming platforms. These new streaming services will become a reality as new algorithms and protocols are implemented within the 5G Broadcast environment including FLUTE (File Delivery over Unidirectional Transport Stream), DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Steaming over HTTP) and HLS (HTTP Live Streaming).
Rohde & Schwarz‘s new All-In-One 5G Broadcast-Multicast core network delivers the flexibility, scalability, and performance customers need for mobile broadcast services and leads the customers’ journey into the 5G Broadcast-Multicast world. The company‘s software-oriented solution makes the customer’s core network more flexible, efficient, and open.
“In many ways, 5G Broadcast represents the cutting edge of broadcast technology today. On top of live and linear content, BSCC 2.0 allows content providers to deliver different types of premium content to their mobile users simultaneously, simplifying the implementation of new services for broadcasters and mobile network operators with consistent quality of service and experience while optimizing spectral efficiency and significantly reducing costs.“
Manfred Reitmeier, Vice President Transmitters and Amplifier Systems at Rohde & Schwarz
BSCC2.0 helps the customer to reduce costs, add more agility, and meet the demands of future mobile and fixed broadcast and multicast services. It is based on new, modular software architecture to achieve improved software overload protection.
BSCC2.0 represents a new and radically different approach to 5G Broadcast-Multicast operations management. A number of key factors differentiate it from rival solutions including 3GPP Release 16 support, the integration of Transport Streams over IP (TsoIP) protocols and multi-service support. Building on its specialist expertise in mobile transmission technology, BSCC 2.0 has embedded multi-TX connection support, as well as single frequency network (SFN) and multi frequency network (MFN) transmission support.
