In a recent announcement, the General Director of the CNPS addressed claims of a cyber breach involving the organization’s database. A group of individuals purported to have hacked into the CNPS system, demanding ransom in exchange for not leaking sensitive data.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the limited information these scammers possessed came from the computers of two CNPS agents who inadvertently clicked on a malicious link. The extortionists attempted to create the illusion of a significant breach, allegedly enlisting the support of social media influencers to amplify their threat and facilitate their ransom scheme.
The documents in the scammers’ possession are routine work tools shared within the CNPS and are of minimal importance, having no effect on the overall functioning of the organization.
In response to these threats, the CNPS reassured its stakeholders that the security of its information system remains a top priority. The organization confirmed that its services, including online offerings, continue to operate normally without any disruptions, despite the attempts of these organized criminals to instill fear.
Moreover, the CNPS is actively collaborating with relevant authorities, particularly the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), and engaging expert service providers to bolster the integrity of its information systems in light of the identified threats.
