CITRA Launches Direct Domain Registration Service for Kuwait

CITRA launches the first phase of direct domain registration (kw.), allowing government entities and trademark owners to register national domains.

The Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) launched the first phase of the direct domain registration service (kw.) today, Monday. This service is divided into three phases, with the first phase lasting for six months.

During a press conference held for this occasion, Eng. Manal AlMazyad, Director of the Public Sector Governance Department at CITRA, stated that the first phase is called the “Sunrise Period,” which provides an opportunity for government entities, registered trademark owners, and holders of third-level domains (.com.kw / .net.kw / .org.kw) to register direct domain names under the national extension (kw.), in accordance with the domain name registration policy issued by CITRA.

AlMazyad added that CITRA has been managing and organizing the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) since 2017, under Law No. (37) of 2014, which led to the creation of a comprehensive electronic system for registering third-level domains. CITRA has also set the necessary policies to ensure the organization of this process in accordance with the approved domain name registration guidelines.

AlMazyad called on all concerned parties to visit CITRA’s official website to review the full details related to the registration policy and the necessary procedures for registering domains during the Sunrise Period. In addition, she mentioned that it is possible to contact CITRA through official channels for more information.
