In a significant move for digital connectivity, Nigeria is set to join the ranks of countries utilizing the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi 6 applications. Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), made this announcement during a recent Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum on Emerging Technologies.
The adoption of the 6GHz band is poised to enhance internet speed and reliability across the country, aligning Nigeria with global trends in telecommunications. Wi-Fi 6, known for its ability to manage multiple devices and provide faster data rates, is particularly crucial in today’s increasingly digital landscape, where high-speed internet access is essential for both personal and professional activities.
Dr. Maida emphasized the importance of this development in promoting technological innovation and improving access to digital services for Nigerians. The NCC aims to foster an environment conducive to economic growth and digital transformation by expanding the available spectrum for wireless communication.
