Cape Town Unveils Data Strategy for Enhanced Public Service and Innovation

Cape Town’s new Data Strategy improves service delivery, fosters innovation, and enhances public data accessibility.

The City of Cape Town (CCT) has launched its new Data Strategy to improve service delivery and operational efficiency. Building on its 2018 internal Data Strategy, this public initiative empowers CCT to make evidence-based decisions, ensuring effective use of public resources and better responses to residents’ needs.

The strategy focuses on acquiring, managing, and utilizing data for timely, informed decisions, especially during crises like the Covid-19 pandemic. It also enhances transparency, allowing residents to access and trust public data while safeguarding privacy.

By leveraging the CCT Open Data Portal, the private sector and civil society can innovate in areas such as housing and transportation. This strategy supports Cape Town’s vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and healthy future under the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for 2022–2027.
