Starlink Now Operational in Zimbabwe, Boosting National Connectivity

Starlink begins operations in Zimbabwe, enhancing rural connectivity and advancing the country’s digital transformation.

Starlink, SpaceX’s Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite internet service, is now operational in Zimbabwe following approval from President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May 2024. The service, licensed by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), will be provided through IMC Communications (Pvt) Ltd, Starlink’s local partner.

President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of technology in Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 agenda, noting that Starlink’s entry would bring high-speed, low-cost internet to rural areas. He described the move as crucial for Zimbabwe’s digital transformation and urged more foreign investment in the country’s telecommunications sector.

This partnership aims to bridge the digital divide and supports Zimbabwe’s goal of becoming a fully digitized, upper-middle-income economy by 2030. Mnangagwa congratulated Starlink and IMC Communications for revolutionizing the nation’s telecommunications landscape.
