Malawi President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera continues to bolster the country’s digital transformation, engaging with Li Junfeng, Vice President of Huawei Technologies, shortly after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In the meeting, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to investing in Malawi’s digital infrastructure, essential for achieving the country’s smart nation ambitions.
According to additional reports, Malawi is also preparing to launch the Smart Village Initiative to enhance internet access in rural and remote areas. This initiative collaborates with the Malawian government and Huawei, a global telecommunications leader.
Huawei’s longstanding partnership with Malawi includes pioneering projects like the Malawi National Data Centre and the National Fibre Backbone Project. These initiatives are driving digital innovation across sectors like e-Government, e-Health, and e-Learning, contributing to Malawi’s economic growth and aligning with the MW2063 and National ICT Masterplan goals. Chakwera urged Huawei to continue prioritizing local employment as they expand their digital infrastructure efforts.
