Telecom Namibia reportedly revealed plans to roll out commercial 5G services by 2026, aiming to provide faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved network capacity. This strategic move will initially target specific areas, marking a significant step in enhancing connectivity across the country.
In addition to the 5G rollout, Telecom Namibia is significantly expanding its network infrastructure for the 2023/2024 fiscal year. The company will deploy 77 new mobile base stations nationwide, a project designed to enhance coverage, capacity, and speed for both urban and rural customers.
Pilot sites have already been activated in Cimbebasia and Kariba – Goreangab, and are currently undergoing soak testing. To support these advancements, Telecom Namibia is also constructing backhaul fiber lines to ensure high-speed connectivity to the new base stations. This comprehensive upgrade reflects the company’s commitment to improving network performance and preparing for the future of telecommunications in Namibia.
