SABC CEO Stresses Government Support Essential for Public Broadcaster’s Survival

Nomsa Chabeli says SABC’s turnaround plan relies heavily on government investment for sustainability.

Nomsa Chabeli, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has emphasized the critical role of government investment in ensuring the sustainability of public broadcasters. In a recent briefing to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies, Chabeli, alongside SABC Board Chairperson Khathutshelo Ramukumba, presented the broadcaster’s comprehensive five-year turnaround plan.

Chabeli’s remarks underscored the financial challenges faced by the SABC, highlighting that without government support, the survival of a public broadcaster becomes nearly impossible. The turnaround plan aims to address these challenges and reposition the SABC for future success, focusing on revitalizing its operations and securing a stable financial footing.
