Ethio Telecom Launches Rural Mobile Services, Connecting 903,000 in Remote Areas

Ethio Telecom’s new rural mobile solution brings connectivity to 903,000 residents across 305 kebeles.

Ethio Telecom has announced the official launch of 100 rural mobile solution, providing telecom services to previously unserved 903,000 residents living under 305 rural kebeles.

Ethio telecom’s top management along with the local government officials and the community members are now celebrating the official launch in the areas where the services have been launched.

The implementation of this rural connectivity will considerably shorten the journey that local communities used to travel by up to 20 km on average to get connectivity services, bridging the digital divide and thereby helping ensure the long-term sustainable development and economic opportunities of rural areas.

In the next phase, the company aims to expand mobile services in rural areas of the country where basic telecommunication services are not accessible. Since such projects are deployed amid challenges of difficult terrains, lack of roads, scattered settlements, and power shortages, the company calls for collaboration from all stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, development partners, and technology providers.
