In a significant step towards advancing Kenya’s digital economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, announced the deployment of 46 ICT Directors across various ministries and state departments. This move underscores the government’s commitment to creating digital jobs for the youth through the Digital Super Highway and the Creative Economy, key pillars of the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Eng. Tanui highlighted the diverse expertise of these ICT Directors, which spans Research and Digital Innovation, Software Development, E-commerce and Entrepreneurship, Cybersecurity, and Systems Audit and Control. Their roles will be pivotal in achieving the Ministry’s mission to build an informed and digitally empowered Kenyan society.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Kenyan government to leverage technology for economic growth and job creation. By appointing skilled ICT professionals to lead digital initiatives within various government sectors, the Ministry aims to enhance efficiency, security, and innovation across the board. The Digital Super Highway and Creative Economy initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in this transformation, offering new opportunities and fostering a vibrant digital ecosystem in Kenya.
As Kenya continues to embrace digital transformation, the leadership and expertise of these newly appointed ICT Directors will be vital in driving forward the country’s digital agenda, ensuring that all Kenyans can benefit from the opportunities presented by a modern, connected economy.
