Namibia’s ICT Minister Leads Efforts to Boost Digital Transformation

The meeting in Windhoek aims to enhance coordination and drive Namibia’s digital transformation initiatives.

In a strategic move to advance Namibia’s digital landscape, ICT Minister Hon. Emma Theofelus convened a high-level meeting focused on enhancing coordination and breaking down silos within the public sector. The meeting, held in Windhoek, aims to streamline the government’s digital transformation efforts, ensuring a cohesive approach to the nation’s technological development.

The meeting was attended by prominent government officials, including Education Minister Hon. Anna Nghipondoka, Youth Deputy Minister Dr. Emma Kantema-Gaomas, and Executive Directors and representatives from the Ministries of Youth, Trade, and Higher Education. Additionally, representatives from key public enterprises such as the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), and the National Commission on Research, Science, and Technology (NCRST) were present.

The gathering underscored the collective commitment to better coordination and resource pooling for joint projects. High on the agenda were initiatives aimed at connecting schools, rolling out digital and AI literacy programs, and fostering the growth of digital industries. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance digital access and literacy across Namibia, thereby empowering citizens and driving socio-economic growth.

ICT Minister Hon. Emma Theofelus emphasized the critical need for a collaborative approach, noting that dismantling silos is crucial for the successful implementation of Namibia’s digital transformation strategy.
