PAC-ADE Hosts First African Continent Meeting in Nigeria to Boost Diaspora-Led Investments

PAC-ADE meets in Nigeria to discuss diaspora-led investments in key sectors, strengthening US-Africa ties.

The President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States (PAC-ADE) is set to host its second meeting of the year from July 14-17, 2024, in Nigeria. Marking a significant milestone, this will be PAC-ADE’s first trip to the African continent. The Advisory Council members will gather in the vibrant cities of Lagos and Abuja, engaging with government officials, civil society leaders, and private-sector partners to discuss and promote diaspora-led investments in various sectors.

The discussions will focus on critical areas such as education, entrepreneurship, health, technology, youth and women empowerment, and the creative industries. This initiative aims to leverage the expertise and resources of the African diaspora to foster economic growth and development within the continent.

PAC-ADE was announced by President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken in September 2023. The council was established to advise on strategies to strengthen cultural, social, political, and economic ties between African communities and the African diaspora in the United States. This upcoming meeting in Nigeria underscores the commitment of PAC-ADE to build robust partnerships and drive impactful investments that can significantly benefit both the African continent and its diaspora communities.

As PAC-ADE members engage with key stakeholders during this historic visit, they aim to create actionable plans and initiatives that will enhance the socio-economic landscape of Africa. This collaborative effort highlights the importance of diaspora contributions to the continent’s development and the strengthening of US-Africa relations.
