Barney Harmse, Executive Chairman of the Paratus Group, joined the Namibian Minister of ICT, Hon. Emma Theofelus, on a visit to Oikango Village in the Ongwediva constituency. This visit was part of a broader initiative to understand and address connectivity challenges in rural communities. The engagement highlighted Paratus Group’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and bringing reliable internet connectivity to underserved areas in Namibia.
During the visit, Harmse and Paratus Namibia’s Managing Director, Clarence Lamperth, reconnected with Mrs. Lusia Hamumokola, a retired Deputy Director of IT from the Ministry of Finance. Hamumokola played a pivotal role in the deployment of the first commercial MPLS network in Namibia back in 2006, a project executed by Paratus for the Ministry of Finance. This meeting underscored the long-standing partnerships and collaborative efforts essential for advancing Namibia’s telecommunications landscape.
Paratus Group has been actively involved in improving connectivity across Namibia and other African countries. Their efforts include providing satellite connections to schools in remote areas through initiatives like EduVision, which has significantly boosted educational outcomes for students in these communities
