Telecommunications Authority of Oman Launches Free Device to Measure Home Internet Quality

The new device measures home internet performance, ensuring transparency and consumer satisfaction in fixed broadband services.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Oman has launched an integrated system to measure fixed broadband services (home internet) to verify the quality of service provided to beneficiaries by measuring a number of indicators and comparing them with the packages announced by telecommunications service providers, using a dedicated device for this purpose.

The device, which the Authority provides free of charge to subscribers of fixed broadband services, enables users to evaluate their experience with different fixed broadband packages and technologies. It connects to the user’s home network to accurately verify the companies’ compliance with the service level provided over a specified period. The device measures several indicators such as download and upload speeds, network response time, network interruptions, and other indicators.

Through this device, the Authority aims to protect users’ interests, ensure transparency and consumer satisfaction, and promote competition based on service quality. The device can be requested by contacting the Authority through its various communication channels, such as the website, email, the Authority’s call center, and WhatsApp service.
