Ericsson and Google Cloud have embarked on a strategic partnership to transform the telecommunications industry with several key initiatives:
- Core Network Advancements: The partnership has successfully deployed Ericsson’s 5G Core cloud-native network functions (CNFs) on an on-premises Google Distributed Cloud Edge (GDC Edge). This accomplishment marks a milestone in leveraging cloud technology for more scalable and flexible network infrastructures.
- 5G and Edge Cloud Solutions: Together, Ericsson and Google Cloud are providing innovative 5G and Edge cloud solutions for telecommunications companies and enterprises alike, driving digital transformation and enabling the development of new digital experiences for customers across a multitude of industries.
- Cloud RAN: The recent expansion of the collaboration includes the development of a Cloud RAN solution on Google Distributed Cloud. This initiative offers integrated automation and orchestration, leveraging AI/ML for additional benefits to communications service providers (CSPs).
In 2024, the partnership aims to build on the successes of 2023 by further enabling its telecommunication workloads on Google’s GDC Edge, realize select AI/ML-driven use cases that will be impactful for the telecommunication industry, and launch new offerings for the strategic areas that Ericsson prioritizes across its customer segments.
