du, a leading ICT service provider in the UAE, has launched a project in collaboration with Huawei to upgrade 300 diesel generator (DG) sites in remote communities. This initiative aligns with du’s goal of becoming a Net Zero ICT service provider and supporting sustainable development in the region.
The UAE has taken significant steps towards reducing its carbon footprint, being the first country in the Middle East to commit to net zero. As a champion of greener strategies, du actively supports the Paris Agreement and the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative. To achieve its carbon reduction goals, du has developed a comprehensive plan that includes optimizing its ICT infrastructure’s carbon footprint.
In its efforts to bring network coverage to remote communities, du faced challenges related to power supply, leading to the use of diesel generators as the primary energy source. However, this resulted in high carbon emissions and operational costs. To address these issues, du partnered with Huawei to deploy advanced hybrid power solutions, reducing reliance on DGs and improving energy efficiency.
Through this upgrade of more than 300 DG sites, du aims to enhance network coverage, lower carbon emissions, and minimize operations and maintenance workload. By deploying state-of-the-art hybrid power solutions with Lithium Batteries, du estimates a reduction of 10,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to planting 500,000 trees. This initiative underscores du’s commitment to sustainable development and utilizing technological innovation for positive social impact.
As a company deeply dedicated to sustainable development, we take immense pride in proactively implementing measures to significantly reduce carbon emissions. By deploying state-of-the-art hybrid power solutions across over 300 communication sites throughout the UAE, we are actively decreasing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources. This initiative not only lowers our carbon footprint but also ensures the delivery of more eco-friendly and sustainable services to communities in even the most remote desert regions. Our unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility reflects our determination to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for all.
