MTN Releases its Suite of Annual Reports for 2022

MTN Group has released its suite of annual reports for 2022, including the Integrated Report, Sustainability Report, Transparency Report and the Tax Report.

2022 was a challenging year for everyone, everywhere, and was characterised by increased macroeconomic and geopolitical volatility.” However, the company remained focused on its Ambition 2025, which aims to provide leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress, and extended digital and financial inclusion for society at large.

The Integrated Report provides a holistic view of the Group and enables stakeholders to assess MTN’s strategic performance and prospects. It shows the connectivity between strategic priorities, material matters, six capitals, UN’s SDGs, stakeholders, and risks, and the actions taken to mitigate them. According to Mupita, “It contains the key focus areas of each of our board committees in the year and their plans for the year ahead.”

The Sustainability Report details MTN’s environmental, social and governance performance and commitments. It incorporates the GSMA’s new industry-specific “ESG Metrics for Mobile” disclosures, positioning MTN at the centre of Africa’s transformation. The report details MTN’s progress in establishing itself as a responsible, transparent and sustainable organisation, building on climate disclosures, strengthening data privacy and security, minimising the gender pay gap and upholding digital human rights.

The Transparency Report provides insight into MTN’s approach to digital human rights strategy and practice. According to Mupita, “We believe all people should be able to communicate freely; to access and exchange information responsibly; and to enjoy privacy and security when using digital communication and data.”

The voluntary Tax Report explains MTN’s tax affairs, shows its contribution to the socioeconomic development of its nation-state hosts, and reveals that its total tax contribution in the year amounted to more than R51 billion, up from more than R44 billion in 2021. Mupita says, “The 2022 suits of reports outlines the progress we are making as a company and the contribution we are making to society more broadly, which we trust all our stakeholders will find useful.”
