Overcoming Migration Challenges: Veloce’s Technology & LigaData’s Vision for MNOs in the Cloud

TechAfrica News met with Bassel Ojjeh, the CEO of LigaData to Gain insights into LigaData’s acquisition of Veloce Cloud Computing and how it’s reshaping the future of data management for MNOs.

What were the key reasons behind LigaData’s acquisition of Veloce Cloud Computing, and how does it fit into LigaData’s overall strategy?

Bassel Ojjeh: LigaData’s Telco Data Fabric, services, and software products are deployed at over 30 mobile network operators (MNOs), supporting over 350 million subscribers around the world to extract greater value from their existing infrastructure through improved analytics and AI-based decisioning. Having worked closely with MNOs over the years, we have a deep understanding of the challenges they face when transitioning their business use cases to the cloud. That’s why we acquired Veloce Cloud Computing, which has a wealth of expertise in this area. By leveraging Veloce’s cloud-first approach and cutting-edge cloud solutions, we will accelerate our time-to-market in developing new use cases and providing AI-driven, cloud-optimized offerings.

Being a future-proof provider of managed data services and products for our customers is integral to our mission.

Bassel Ojjeh, the CEO of LigaData

We see a tremendous upside in using the cloud to enhance the customer and service experience for MNOs across a range of areas including Data, Voice, OTT, Digital Services, FinTech services and 5G. This acquisition will enable us to migrate existing MNO customers to the cloud through a hybrid-cloud approach, either in their entirety or through selective high-value business use cases. By doing so, LigaData will be well-positioned to continue supporting MNOs around the world in delivering high-quality services to their subscribers.

Can you explain how the expertise and technologies brought by Veloce Cloud Computing will enhance LigaData’s ability to serve its MNO customers?

Bassel Ojjeh: Being a future-proof provider of managed data services and products for our customers is integral to our mission. To delve deeper, this acquisition brings a top-notch team with significant experience in migrating to the cloud and developing cloud-based analytics solutions/products to handle petabyte-scale datasets that are directly applicable to MNOs.

The Veloce team has proven expertise in building and deploying petabyte-scale, high-performance, and real-time analytics systems both on-premise and migrating them to the cloud, which is highly relevant to the MNO AI and analytics space. Veloce Cloud Computing has developed solutions to focus on cost efficiency as well as providing optimal data experiences. We are filled with pride to welcome them on board to join our exceptional team.

Cloud cost optimization is one of the critical benefits of Veloce’s technology. Could you provide specific examples of how this technology can help MNOs achieve better cost efficiency?

Bassel Ojjeh: At the core of our value proposition to customers lies the crucial objective of reducing cloud computing costs, while simultaneously enhancing performance and functionality. There are several ways we achieve this.

  • We offer multi-cloud/multi-zone data management for data protection, archiving, and disaster recovery, considering factors such as storage costs, retrieval times, and regulations
  • We prioritize resource selection based on workload type, SLA criticality, and data experience
  • We provide Optimized Data Access APIs that cater to different client application types and criticality
  • We can execute analytical workloads through cloud data warehouses such as Azure Synapse, Google Big Query, AWS Redshift, or similar CDW services.

Lastly, we execute analytical workloads using Synapse, other open-source query services, or through other clouds.

The acquisition is focused on new cloud-specific products. Could you share some examples of the use cases that LigaData plans to develop with Veloce’s technology and how they can benefit MNOs?

Bassel Ojjeh: Using Veloce Cloud Technology, LigaData is now able to provide MNOs with a range of valuable capabilities. I’ll give you two examples I’m excited about.

We know that superapps are becoming increasingly popular worldwide, offering services such as ride-hailing, food delivery, e-commerce, and mobile payments. MNOs can partner with superapps to provide integrated services to their customers, but to optimize these partnerships, they need to understand how customers are using these services and how they interact with the MNO’s own offerings.

We can do that by providing MNOs with insights into user behavior across different superapps, enabling them to optimize their offerings and create more targeted marketing campaigns. Our clients can then make more informed decisions and provide a better overall customer experience.

This acquisition brings a top-notch team with significant experience in both migrating to the cloud as well as developing cloud-based analytics solutions/products to handle petabyte-scale datasets that are directly applicable to MNOs.

Another use case example is how our cloud-based campaign management tools can help MNOs plan, execute, and measure the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns more efficiently. By segmenting their customer base, creating targeted campaigns, and tracking responses in real-time, MNOs can achieve better ROI on their marketing spend and ensure that their campaigns are as effective as possible. Overall, we’re confident that with LigaData’s Veloce Cloud Technology, our clients and future clients can leverage the power of cloud-based analytics tools to gain valuable insights and improve their operations.

What challenges do MNOs face when migrating their AI and analytics workloads to the cloud, and how does Veloce’s technology help address these challenges?

Bassel Ojjeh: As a company, LigaData has gained invaluable insight into the challenges faced by MNOs when migrating to the cloud. This is a key reason why we decided to acquire Veloce, to leverage their team’s expertise in meeting these unique challenges.

For instance, MNOs handle significant amounts of sensitive customer data, necessitating robust data privacy and security measures. Veloce brings its experience in integrating with cloud-based governance systems like Azure AD and Azure Purview to help address this challenge.

Additionally, MNOs are required to comply with various regulations and standards related to data privacy, security, and governance. Veloce’s experience in integrating with cloud-based governance systems such as Azure Purview is a valuable asset in ensuring compliance with these regulations.

Finally, migrating to the cloud can be expensive if not done with care. Veloce brings its experience with proven cost modeling and management capabilities to help MNOs achieve cost-effective migration to the cloud. Overall, Veloce’s team complements LigaData’s experienced team of engineers and data scientists, adding to our collective expertise.
