National Bank of Ethiopia Proposes a $150 Million License Fee to Safaricom

National Bank of Ethiopia has issued proposal for a $150 Million license fee for Safaicom or any other mobile operator wishing to set up shop in the country.

In a recent turn of events in Safaricom’s entry in Ethiopia, now the National Bank of Ethiopia has put forward a proposal to take a $150 Million license fee for any mobile operator who wants to operate in the country.

The proposal was signed by Solomon Damtew, the Payment and Settlement System Director at the National Bank of Ethiopia. In this proposal the $150 Million is referred to as an investment protection fee.
