The President of Kenya met with Vodacom’s CEO and Safaricom’s CEO

Earlier this week in Kenya, President Dr. William Ruto met with Vodacom’s Group CEO, Shameel Joosub and the Group Chief External Affairs Officer – Stephen Chege, as well as Safaricom’s CEO Peter Ndegwa to discuss digital inclusion for all, including digitization of critical government services, and expanding financial inclusion.

President Ruto acknowledged the role played by Safaricom in the successful rollout of the newly launched Hustler Fund, a government fund that lets Kenyan citizens borrow money through their cellphones. This is empowered by Safaricom PLC in which Vodacom owns a 35% stake, and is another way in which we are deepening financial inclusion on the continent.
