Global technology brand, Lenovo, has partnered with St Monica’s Children’s Home to revamp a one-of -a kind digital lab that will equip each child with the opportunity to learn and empower themselves to reach their full potential.
St Monica’s is a registered home, situated in Durban, that accommodates children and youth, from the ages 3 to 18. The home provides secondary childcare services that are aimed at providing a range of non-residential services, to improve their quality of life.
Continuing with the non-governmental organization’s purpose of bringing hope to the future of disadvantaged children, Lenovo dedicated the 24th of September, marked as Heritage Day in South Africa, to revitalizing the digital lab, which was installed in 2019. The team refurbished it with paint, set up workstations, and equipped the centre with new Lenovo devices that the children can use on a daily basis.
At the heart of the St Monica’s home is to provide an environment that ensures that each child’s educational needs are met. Installing the Lenovo digital lab does exactly that, by offering resources that support the personal and educational development of those that situated in the home.Yugen Naidoo, General Manager, Lenovo Southern Africa
In addition to setting up the digital lab, Lenovo has also committed to teaching the children, particularly young girls, soft skills and providing mentorship.
We focus on common skills that are applicable in all professions, including critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, communication, work ethic and etiquette, and more.Yugen Naidoo, General Manager, Lenovo Southern Africa
This partnership embodies Lenovo’s mission of using technology to improve the accessibility of education. In line with Lenovo’s ongoing commitment to increase access to STEM education and empower diverse groups and communities, the tech brand currently reaches a number of children, who are deserving of support.
The initiative, which was activated on Heritage Day continuous the legacy of the St Monica’s Home – which provides a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children of all races, faiths, and backgrounds, to empower them as valuable members of society.
The day filled with fun activities as well as donations in the form of hygiene packs.
