Zain has announced that they have published a thought leadership report entitled ‘The Climate Crisis – Achieving Net-Zero for a Sustainable Future’. Bader N. Al Kharafi, Vice-Chairman & Group CEO commented on the report.
Over the course of history, humanity has faced a multitude of challenges ranging from conflicts, poverty, hunger, massive displacements, and pandemic outbreaks. Despite all the strife, we have been able to overcome the challenges at hand and evolve into stronger societies across the world. However, climate change is our new reality and perhaps one of the greatest issues that humanity will face.
Climate change knows no boundaries, no socio-economic status, nor is an isolated event that affects a particular region of the world. It is an all-encompassing crisis that requires commitment from all; in other words, we must all work together towards a common goal, which is to reduce the devastating impact of rising temperatures globally.
We recognize the role that private sector entities have in helping reduce or at very least stabilize temperatures globally as it is uniquely positioned to take decisive action through cooperation, furthering the agenda of innovation, and working across a multitude of other sectors to tackle the problem head-on.
For Zain, climate change presents an opportunity to transition towards the running of the business with greater efficiency while pushing the innovation agenda. We believe that the development of new technologies grounded on energy efficiency coupled with the use of renewable energy will have a net positive impact across our markets.
It is incumbent upon us to work towards a future that is sustainable, fair, and inclusive, which acknowledges the various issues that climate change will have across our footprint and beyond, and set in place a course of action critical to Zain and our stakeholders.
We are committed to our social contract and are steadfast in our resolve to achieve systemic change necessary to creating a sustainable future.
