Following the announcement earlier this year, MTN South Africa following their visions to strengthen digital connectivity has announced the launch of the first commercial installation of Supersonic AirFibre starting May 2021.
Supersonic Air Fibre will serve as an upgrade to the existing, cabled fiber and it will let users experience high internet speeds ranging from 5Mbps to 100 Mbps.
“The unfortunate reality is that while virtually all urban areas in the world are covered by a mobile broadband network, worrying gaps in connectivity and internet access persist outside of the cities and in rural areas. Air Fibre serves as an alternative to the labor-intensive rollout of cabled fiber, by using MTN’s existing reception network.”
Calvin Collett, managing director of MTN SA
MTN’s Air Fibre’s first commercial rollout will commence in the areas of Soweto, Mamelodi, Fairlands, and Honeydew.
